Pou Chen Corporation, a Taiwan-based footwear manufacturer is in the advanced stages of finalising the location for a new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu with an investment of over Rs 500 crore.

The company is seeking around 300-400 acres of land parcel for the project and the state government has pitched Tiruchii, Viluppuram and the port city of Thoothukudi as some of the feasible sites.

The Tamil Nadu government has introduced a policy on footwear and leather goods in August 2022, and the state hopes to draw in investments summing to Rs 20,000 crore for the production of footwear and leather goods.

In December 2022, the company registered a subsidiary ‘High Glory Footwear India (HGFIPL).

Similarly, Feng Tay Group launched its first facility in Tamil Nadu in 2006, and the Hong Fu Group and the Tamil Nadu government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in April 2022 to establish a footwear manufacturing unit for Rs 1,000 crore.
