Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has been declared the successful bidder under tariff-based competitive bidding to establish the “Inter-regional (NR-WR) Transmission System strengthening” project.

This initiative aims to relieve the loading on the 765 kV Vindhyachal-Varanasi double circuit (D/c) line, operating on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. The company received the letter of intent (LoI) on 16 September 2025. The work involves setting up a new 765 kV sub-station at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, along with the development of 765 kV double circuit transmission lines that will traverse through Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

This project is crucial to strengthening the inter-regional transmission system between the Northern Region (NR) and Western Region (WR), enhancing grid reliability, and supporting increased power transfer capacity. POWERGRID’s expertise in large-scale transmission infrastructure will play a pivotal role in the successful execution of this strategic energy project.
