Preliminary preparations have started on Grand Eweng Hep dam in Cameroon, which is expected to be completed in 2024.
Hyfromine Inc is constructing the dam on build, operate and transfer basis. The dam is projected to produce 1,800 MW of energy.
The estimated cost of the project is USD three billion. The project will be the fourth largest in Africa and the biggest private HEP project on the continent. Construction work on the project is expected to commence by mid-2019.
The project also includes connecting transmission lines of 4,00,000 volt capacity to the Edea and Calabar grids in Nigeria. Once completed, the project will create both, direct and indirect jobs in the tens of thousands.
