Lucknow Metro has reached a new milestone as Phase 1B – the East-West Corridor, has received clearance from the Public Investment Board (PIB), marking a step forward in expanding the city’s urban transport infrastructure.
This development comes eight years after the successful launch of the Metro's first phase in September 2017 and brings the project closer to final Union Cabinet approval. The proposed 11.165 km-long corridor, stretching from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, will pass through key densely populated and key areas.
It features a mix of 4.286 km elevated and 6.879 km underground sections and will include 12 Metro stations—seven underground and five elevated. Charbagh, a major transit hub, will serve as the starting point, with Vasant Kunj, a growing residential zone, as the terminus.
A major feature of this phase is its interchange at Charbagh station with the existing North-South Corridor, allowing for seamless passenger transfers. With an estimated cost of Rs 5,801 crore and a five-year construction timeline, the corridor is expected to significantly boost connectivity and ease traffic congestion.
