The National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) has announced the completion of 16 out of 21 river bridges planned for the Gujarat stretch of the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR).
The latest achievement is the 360-mtrs.-long bridge over the Daman Ganga river in Valsad district, marking the fifth and final river bridge completed in the area. According to NHSRCL, “The bridge, located between Boisar and Vapi bullet train stations consists of nine Full Span Girders of 40 meters each. The height of the piers ranges from 19 to 29 metres…” Initially, 20 river bridges were planned in Gujarat, but a realignment over the Vishwamitri river in Vadodara raised the count to 21.
The Valsad section includes bridges over Auranga (320 m), Par (320 m), Kolak (160 m), and Darotha (80 m) rivers. The corridor's longest river bridge in Gujarat is a 1.4-km span over the Narmada river, with piers deeper than 70 mtrs., four surpassing the 72.5-mtrs. height of Delhi’s Qutub Minar. The longest bridge on the entire route is the 2.4-km Vaitarna bridge in Maharashtra.
