Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal have inaugurated a 15 million gallons per day (MGD) sewage treatment plant (STP) at Sector-83, in Mohali, marking a major step forward in urban waste management for the state.
The state-of-the-art facility, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 145.26 crore, is a key part of Punjab’s green infrastructure strategy, and will play a critical role in enhancing sewage treatment capacity, reducing pollution, and supporting sustainable urban development. The plant aims to recycle treated wastewater for non-potable purposes, advancing the circular use of water resources in alignment with the state’s environmental goals.
Officials noted that the STP will help reduce environmental degradation, improve public hygiene, and ensure cleaner, healthier urban living in Mohali and surrounding areas, making it a model for future projects across the state. Starting this December, the state government will ensure water supply, sewerage facility, cleanliness, roads, lights and STPs in 166 cities of the state.
