Reliance Industries (RIL) is making an accelerated move to enable the installation of at least 100 GW of renewable energy generation by 2030. This was announced at the company's annual general meeting (AGM) held on 28 August, 2023.
To spearhead its green initiatives, the company will deploy the committed capital of Rs 75,000 crore to build an integrated manufacturing ecosystem. Towards this, a critical project is the establishment of a giga factory by 2026 for the manufacturing of battery chemicals, cells, and packs.
Additionally, the company is looking to commercialize sodium-ion battery technology and achieve the integration of energy storage with wind and solar power generation at a megawatt scale in Jamnagar, Gujarat by 2025.
The company also aims to foray into large-scale carbon fibre manufacturing which will support the development of a cost-efficient wind power generation infrastructure. In bio-energy segment, RIL aims to establish 100 compressed biogas (CBG) plants in the next five years.
Overall, it is targeting to achieve net-carbon zero goals by 2035.
