Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, has announced a Rs 15,800 crore capital expenditure plan aimed at boosting infrastructure in West Bengal.
This includes a Rs 12,000 crore energy project to develop a 5,000 MWh storage facility, which is expected to make Kolkata one of the first cities in India to receive 50 percent of its energy from renewable sources. Goenka praised the leadership of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for fostering an investment-friendly environment, noting that his Group has already invested Rs 26,500 crore under her leadership.
Around Rs 1,000 crore will be allocated to enhance education and healthcare infrastructure. The education sector will see a Rs 500 crore investment to double its capacity. Meanwhile, a state-of-the-art hospital is set to open by January 2027, aiming to become India’s top healthcare facility.
