Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) has received a letter of acceptance (LOA) from the South Central Railway for a major railway electrification project valued at Rs 213.22 crore.
The project involves the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning for Overhead Equipment (OHE) upgradation from the existing 1X25kV system to a 2X25kV system. The work will cover the Duvvada-Rajahmundry and Samalkot-Kakinada Port sections of the Vijayawada Division, spanning a total of 195.5 route km (RKM) or 391 Track km (TKM).
The scope of the project includes enhancements to the feeding system with feeder and earthing works, aimed at increasing the efficiency and reliability of railway electrification in the specified sections. This upgrade is critical for handling higher traffic loads and improving energy efficiency in line with Indian Railways' modernisation initiatives.
The awarded contract aligns with Indian Railways' broader goal of achieving 100 percent electrification and reducing its carbon footprint while supporting faster, cleaner, and more efficient rail services.
