The Railway Board has approved the revised detailed project report (DPR) for the South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone, headquartered in Visakhapatnam.
The approval, issued via notification on July 16, includes observations and modifications related to jurisdiction, staffing, and infrastructure. The revised DPR details updated jurisdictional divisions, sanctioned staffing, and proposed infrastructure. Following its review, the Railway Board directed the General Manager of SCoR to implement key recommendations. It approved the transfer of sanctioned posts, personnel, and other railway assets from South Central Railway (SCR) to SCoR.
A proposal seeking an additional Rs 200 crore for civil works at the Vizag headquarters remains under review. However, the Board rejected the DPR’s proposal to include the Gunupur-Paralakhemundi and Naupada-Gunupur lines under the Visakhapatnam Division, stating it conflicts with Cabinet-approved jurisdictional boundaries. Meanwhile, construction of the SCoR’s permanent headquarters at Mudasaralova is progressing steadily.
