The Railway Ministry has approved a significant upgrade project for the electric traction system on the Guntur–Pagidipalli and Motumari–Vishnupuram sections, with an investment of Rs 188.31 crore.
The upgrade will involve replacing the existing 1x25 KV system with a more advanced 2x25 KV system to boost efficiency and allow increased train operations. This project will cover approx. 337 route km across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, a vital corridor for both passenger and freight transport.
It is expected to be completed within three years, with the main goal being improved energy efficiency, higher train speeds, and better operational reliability. This will also reduce energy losses, enhance voltage stability, and reduce the need for traction substations.
