In a major boost to South-Central Railway (SCR), the Ministry of Railways has approved nearly Rs 200 crore for the electrification and modernisation of critical rail corridors in Andhra Pradesh.
This includes the electrification of the Pagidipalli–Guntur and Motumarri–Vishnupuram routes. Additionally, a Rs 1,746.20 crore project to double the Motumarri– Vishnupuram line has commenced, offering faster, high-capacity travel between Secunderabad and Vijayawada. The work involves track renewal, bridge reinforcement, and power upgrades with new sub-stations. These initiatives aim to enhance safety, speed, and operational efficiency, benefiting both passenger and freight services.
The upgrades are part of the national track renewal programme and are expected to ease congestion on the Vijayawada–Kazipet line, improving intercity connectivity and freight movement. The long-term plan also includes a modernised Guntur–Secunderabad section, preparing for future links to Amaravati.
