The Railways have approved the Rs 4,100 crore suburban rail project connecting Majestic (KSR Bengaluru City) with Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
The final design has received clearance from Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE), and the detailed project report (DPR) was prepared by RITES. The 8.5-km stretch is expected to ease traffic congestion along the busy airport corridor. The project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion. The route will originate from KSR Bengaluru City, pass through Yeshwanthpur and Yelahanka, and proceed via BK Halli and Aerospace Park to the airport. Of the total stretch, 5.5 km will be at ground level, while 3.5 km within the airport complex will be underground.
The project is part of the larger Rs 15,767 crore, 148-km Bengaluru suburban rail plan, which includes four corridors and is scheduled for completion by 2026. The funding will be split between the state, central governments, and loans from international financial institution
