Reliance
Industries has struck gas in the coal bed methane exploration block at Shahdol
in Madhya Pradesh. Preliminary estimates have indicated a reserve of 7-10
million cubic metres of gas per day. The company was awarded Sohagpur West and
East block located in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh under the first round
of CBM policy.
This is the company’s second largest discovery,
the first being Krishna – Godavari basin discovery, which has an estimated
reserve of 10.5 trillion cubic feet equivalent to 1.7 billion barrels of crude
oil. The country’s current consumption of gas is around 60 million cubic metres
per day.
