Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, V Somanna, has announced that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 12,900 crore for railway projects in the Kalyana Karnataka region.
During a foundation stone-laying ceremony for a road overbridge at Hagaribommanahalli, Minister Somanna highlighted that under the PM Modi government, Karnataka’s railway funding has increased significantly, from Rs 882 crore annually to Rs 7,500 crore-Rs 8,000 crore per year. This increased funding has accelerated railway infrastructure projects in the state.
The Minister emphasised major initiatives, including the Ballari-Chikkajajur double-line railway project, approved at Rs 3,400 crore, and the construction of a Rs 38.7 crore road overbridge between Gunda Road and Kottur. He also mentioned the upcoming flyover near the Tungabhadra Dam and the Rs 26 crore Hosapete-Hampi road project, set for completion by June. Minister Somanna urged district authorities to speed up land acquisition for railway works and ensure all necessary clearances are granted promptly.
