The Union government has sanctioned the construction of a new building for the Employee State Insurance (ESI) hospital in Belagavi at a cost of Rs 152 crore.
Rajya Sabha MP Eranna B Kadadi confirmed that the new structure will replace the current facility in Ashok Nagar, which has been deemed unfit and is slated for demolition. The project also includes construction of staff quarters and is expected to be completed within approx. 30 months. The tendering process for the new building has already begun.
Meanwhile, authorities are working to temporarily shift hospital operations to a premises in Yamunapur. Kadadi, along with Belagavi South MLA Abhay Patil, recently met Union Ministers J P Nadda and Shobha Karandlaje in New Delhi to expedite the commencement of construction. The development aims to modernise healthcare services and improve infrastructure in the region.
Simultaneously, there are ongoing calls for the Karnataka government to establish an ESI Society to ensure efficient management of such hospitals across the state.
