Hyderabad is set to undergo railway station transformation with a Rs 2,000 crore investment for upgradation of 12 key stations across the city. These stations will be enhanced to match facilities typically found in domestic airports, providing modern amenities and improved passenger experiences.
Major stations like Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda are already prioritized, along with smaller stations such as Begumpet, Hi-Tec City, and Malakpet. Begumpet station holds strategic importance on the Hyderabad-Mumbai route and is at the top of the upgrade list. Key improvements include aesthetic entrances, wider roads for better access, dedicated pedestrian pathways, improved lighting, local art and culture displays, and high-quality public facilities such as platform shelters and LED name boards.
SCR is conducting technical and economic feasibility assessments for Kacheguda (Rs 474 crore) and Lingampally (Rs 310 crore) stations. These upgrades are in line with the Cherlapally model, focusing on additional railway tracks, coach maintenance facilities, and enhanced passenger services. Secunderabad railway station is undergoing rapid redevelopment with a planned completion by 2026.
The station will feature a new multi-level station building, sky concourse with retail and recreational spaces, underground and multi-level parking, travelators, escalators, and a solar power plant of 5,000 kWp. The overall goal of these upgrades is to create a seamless, multi-modal integration, providing better connectivity, mobility, and decongested circulation areas, enhancing the overall passenger experience in Hyderabad's rail network.
