Assam's Water Resources Minister, Pijush Hazarika has launched multiple infrastructure projects in Cachar district aimed at curbing river erosion, enhancing public safety, and securing urban water resources.
The key project, a Rs 400-crore anti-erosion scheme at Lakhipur, will protect areas along the Barak River’s left bank, using advanced techniques like geo bags and synthetic fabric. Minister Hazarika emphasised the government's mission-mode approach to flood management, highlighting the construction of nearly 1,000 km of embankments in the last four-and-a-half years.
Additionally, new police stations will be built at Kachudaram and Sonai to improve public safety, while a Rs 2.20-crore project will safeguard Silchar’s critical drinking water supply. The Minister also launched a Rs 4.80-crore RCC drain project to solve chronic waterlogging issues in Bilpar.
