The redevelopment of Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station, a major hub in Kerala's capital, is progressing rapidly with a budget of Rs 495 crore.
The project is being carried out in two key segments: the north block on the Thampanoor side and the south block on the Power House Road side. While piling work has been completed for both blocks, foundation work is now underway at each end. Passenger access is temporarily restricted to the Thampanoor side, as the Power House side undergoes significant construction, including a multi-level car parking facility and a new south block with offices and passenger amenities. A section of the platform near the escalator has also been covered for ongoing works.
Once completed, the station will offer modernised facilities and improved travel experiences, elevating its status to international standards. The redevelopment project is being overseen by the Southern Railway Zone, with Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) and Kerala Rail Development Corporation handling the contract.
