The Road Construction Department of Bihar has fast-tracked work on the greenfield bypass road project to enhance connectivity between Lakhisarai and Patna districts.
The new bypass project will ease traffic congestion, offering an alternative route for heavy vehicles. The 10-km stretch, running from BNM College Ghat in Barhiya to Maranchi, will pass through Maharani Sthan, Panchmahala, Nauranga, and Dumra. The project will be developed in three phases, with the first phase (4.7 km) set to begin in 2024-25 at a cost of Rs 23.21 crore, aiming for completion in 12 months. This phased approach will help manage time, cost, and quality.
Once finished, the bypass will reduce pressure on National Highways, improve movement of goods, and cut travel time. The project, first announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in February 2025, is a response to local demands and is expected to drive economic growth in the region. Alok Kumar Thakur, Executive Engineer, emphasised that quality standards will be strictly followed, and the project’s timely completion is a priority.
