Chennai-based SPEL Semiconductor, is
planning capacity expansion of its chip assembly and testing facilities with a
foray into IC design and a possible entry into newer products such as crystal
oscilloscope with an investment of $250 million within period of five years.
The company's immediate plan is to
raise $30 million (Rs.135 crore) from overseas markets to fund the next phase of
expansion which is likely to be raised through a combination of equity and
convertible and non-convertible debt.
After expansion the company's capacity
will increase from 15 million a month to 18.5 million a month. The project is
scheduled for completion by January 2007.
