Coimbatore-based Salzer Electronics is planning to add a smart meter manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The factory will have backward integration with the company’s existing factories which manufacture electrical components for smart meters.
The plant will have an annual capacity of four million smart energy meters, and will be increased to 10 million in the second phase. The first batch of smart meters is expected to be rolled out in the first quarter of the next financial year from the new facility.
At four million meters, the company expects to generate revenues of about Rs 1,200 crore, creating employment opportunities for around 1,000 people. To start with, the electrical solutions provider is focusing on the domestic market, as the demand in India is 250 million meters.
