Korean consumer electronics and home
appliances major, Samsung, is reportedly planning to start manufacturing
washing machines in India, as part of its strategy to strengthen its home
appliances business in the country.
The project would be set up at the company’s
12 hectare complex at Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The complex manufactures televisions,
colour monitors and microwave ovens. It will start manufacturing air
conditioners by the end of 2001. Samsung is investing Rs.20 crore in the AC
making unit.
Details regarding the capacity and investment
for the proposed washing machines project, have not yet been finalised.
