Delhi International Airport (DIAL) is likely to install 78 aerobridges at the
new Terminal 3 (T3) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Led by
the GMR Group, DIAL is a JV among Airports Authority of India, Fraport of
Germany and Malaysian Airport Holdings.
Apart from the aerobridges which are passageways that connect the boarding
area directly to the aircraft, T3 will also have 63 elevators, nearly 35
escalators and 92 automatic walkways.
DIAL has roped in ShinMaywa of Japan and ThyssenKrupp of Germany to install
the aerobridges. The proposed aerobridges are designed to handle 600 passengers
per hour. They have designed to support the Airbus A-380 aircraft. The present
international terminal has only 10 aerobridges, one escalator and no automatic
walkway. Also, multiple aircraft ramp systems are to come up to accommodate
larger aircraft like Boeing 747, 777 and Airbus A340.
