On 2 September 2013, Uddhav Thackeray, party president of Shiv Sena, inaugurated Shatabdi Hospital at Kandivali in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The hospital, being constructed by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), is now renamed Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Municipal General Hospital. It has increased the facility from 120 beds to 324 beds with an investment of Rs 114.86 crore. Of the 324 beds, 30 will be for those who can afford private hospital charges. The hospital will maintain a 10-bed facility for multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB patients and 30 beds for dialysis. The dialysis centre will be opened in September 2013. The hospital will also have a separate 30-bed space with improved facilities for senior citizens.
However, the cost of rooms has not been worked out yet, but a proposal will be sent to the standing committee.
