Shree Cement has commissioned a 6.0 MWp solar power plant at its Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand, marking a significant advancement in the company’s commitment to renewable energy and its RE100 targets.
The plant, situated adjacent to the company’s existing cement operations, expands the solar capacity at the Roorkee facility from 1.0 MWp to 7.0 MWp, a sevenfold increase. With this project, Shree Cement’s total solar capacity now stands at 293.5 MWp, reinforcing its leadership in green manufacturing within India’s cement sector. The project was developed with a capital investment of approximately Rs 16 crore and is expected to offset nearly 6,500 tonne of CO2 emissions annually, significantly reducing dependence on grid power.
Neeraj Akhoury, MD, Shree Cement, stated, “Sustainability is embedded in everything we do. The commissioning of the Roorkee solar plant is a testament to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and building long-term energy resilience. Projects like this not only benefit the environment but also create local jobs and contribute to inclusive economic growth.” The plant’s commissioning aligns with Shree Cement’s broader strategy to integrate renewable energy into its core operations.
