Power electronics firm SiCSem on 01 November, 2025 held the groundbreaking ceremony for India’s first end-to-end silicon carbide semiconductor manufacturing plant in Odisha, involving an investment of Rs 2,000 crore.
The integrated facility, expected to be operational by 2027–28, will process 60,000 SiC wafers annually and package around 9.6 crore units. Union IT and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a video address, said the project marks a major step toward advanced semiconductor manufacturing in India. He highlighted the partnership with IIT Bhubaneswar to establish the Rs 4.95-crore NaMo Semiconductor Lab for industry-academia collaboration.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and state IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling attended the event. SiCSem, a subsidiary of Archean Chemical Industries, had its project approved by the Union Cabinet on August 12.
