Siemens has secured a Rs 210-crore order from IRCON International to electrify the Sivok-Rangpo rail line, which will connect Sikkim to India's national rail grid.
The work covers 40 km of tunnels in the Himalayan foothills and features advanced technologies like the rigid overhead catenary system and predictive maintenance.
The Sivok (West Bengal)-Rangpo (Sikkim) railway electrification project is a part of the first electrified rail line in the region, for improving sustainable and efficient rail operations while strengthening critical infrastructure in a strategically significant region.
Earlier, Siemens had successfully electrified the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link, connecting Kashmir to the national grid.
