The ministry of civil
aviation has approved the plans for the Sindhudurg airport project estimated at
an investment of Rs.492 crore in Maharashtra. The decision came in after the new
greenfield airports policy was finalised.
The state government
had sought an 'inprincipal' approval to set up a greenfield airport at
Sindhudurg after the Airports Authority of India (AAI) carried out site
inspection. The airport is to be set up through PPP mode while the
Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will be the nodal agency
to select PPP partners through competitive bidding. The state government has
already identified 271 hectares of non-agricultural land. The airport will be
catering to domestic traffic along with decongesting the Dabolim airport
in Goa.
Also, the government
finalised the guidelines for approval of proposals to set up greenfield
airports. All the proposals for setting up new airports will be routed through
the steering committee.
