Singapore’s APRIL Group, among the largest global fibre, pulp and paper producers, has entered into the fast-growing India tissue and personal hygiene market by acquiring a controlling stake in India's leading consumer tissue products company, Origami.
Origami, with tissue paper mills and converting plants operating at multiple locations and distribution centres manufactures an extensive product range covering facial tissues, paper napkins, kitchen towels, wet wipes and others under the Origami and affiliated brands. Origami's founders will continue to hold a significant minority stake in the company and continue to lead the business after the completion of the acquisition.
By bringing together APRIL and Origami, it will serve the growing national demand for high quality, sustainable personal hygiene products, as the tissue market is rapidly expanding, driven by evolving perceptions and habits on hygiene and personal care. APRIL plans to integrate leading local enterprises into its global growth plans and provide the resources to upgrade processes to provide environmental conscious products.
APRIL has been a leading exporter of pulp and paper products to India and the acquisition of Origami will aid its strategy to expand its global footprint, following recent investments in the segment in China, South-East Asia and Brazil. The move enables the group to “Make in India” to further support foreign direct investment in local production. APRIL is a member of Singapore-headquartered RGE Group of companies
