South Western Railway (SWR) has approved the alignment for an 8.5-km rail link connecting Bengaluru to Kempegowda International Airport as part of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP).
The airport line will branch off the KSR Bengaluru-Devanahalli corridor (Sampige Line) and end between Terminal 1 and 2 of the airport. The first 5.5 km will be an elevated track, while the remaining 3.5 km within the airport will be underground. The line will have four stations: BK Halli, KIADB Aerospace Park, Airport City, and Airport Terminal. The project is estimated to cost Rs 4,100 crore, with completion expected by March 2030. While the Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) will not fund the link, efforts are underway to secure state and Indian Railways funding.
K-RIDE Managing Director Lakshman Singh noted that planning for the stations within the airport is progressing, and land acquisition should be completed within a year.
