Southern Railway is set to complete major development projects across all key railway stations in Thiruvananthapuram in the coming months.
The highlights include the transformation of Thiruvananthapuram North into a terminal station, with the addition of a new station building, tactile paving for accessibility, two lifts, and platform shelters, expected to be ready by next month.
The station has already seen raised platforms, six bay shelters, and a water recycling plant installed over the past three years. The move is part of a broader strategy to reduce congestion at Thiruvananthapuram Central, with increased operations of interstate trains from Thiruvananthapuram North, including services to Chennai. Neyyattinkara railway station's redevelopment is also progressing rapidly, slated for completion by August.
Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram Central is undergoing significant upgrades with new station facilities and a passenger concourse, expected to be finished in two years. Additional improvements have been made at Kazhakkoottam—including platform extensions and new seating, and at Pettah, where station amenities were enhanced. Development is also underway at Balaramapuram, Amaravila, Dhanuvachapuram, and Parassala stations.
Notably, Balaramapuram holds strategic importance as the connection point for the upcoming Vizhinjam railway line.
