Southern Railway is set to conduct a trial run of a high-speed train from Coimbatore to Jolarpettai.
The trial aims to test speeds of up to 110 km/h on the 286-km stretch, with plans to increase it to 130 km/h by March 2026, following track upgrades. Bridges have been reinforced, curves straightened, and barricades installed to prevent trespassing. The improvements also include enhanced signalling systems and overhead equipment.
Once completed, passengers, particularly those travelling from Coimbatore to Chennai on the Vande Bharat Express, will benefit from reduced travel times, saving 20-25 minutes. Railways has urged the public to stay clear of the tracks during the trial.
