The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the procurement of land in Umpardong, Umden, Ri Bhoi District, to develop tourism infrastructure, enhancing facilities at the popular Silk Village.
The move aims to accommodate the growing number of visitors to the region. In a related decision, the Cabinet sanctioned Rs 50 crore to construct a road from Nongpoh to Umden, addressing local demand for better tourist amenities, including lodges. Additionally, the Cabinet approved a land exchange proposal for the expansion of Shillong Airport to accommodate larger aircraft. A tender process for the expansion project is already underway.
The Cabinet has also sanctioned Rs 500 crore for household electrification in previously excluded areas under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), improving power access across the state.
