Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, inaugurated the commercial operation of Unit 2 of the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project through a virtual ceremony from New Delhi on 23 December.
The Subansiri project will not only support Northeast India's growth but also strengthen the national power grid and contribute to India's ‘Net Zero’ goals. Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), emphasised that the project would enhance energy supply in the region and align with India’s transition to sustainable power systems. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman of NHPC, added that the project would generate reliable renewable energy to meet the growing demand.
With Unit 2 now operational, the project is on track for the timely commissioning of the remaining units, which will play a major role in boosting India’s renewable energy capacity. The Union Minister called the commissioning of the unit a "testament to years of hard work, dedication, and teamwork," highlighting the project’s importance for India’s clean energy goals.
