Sunsure Energy has signed a battery energy discharge purchase agreement (BEDPA) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), securing 125 MW/500 MWh storage capacity to deliver peakhour power to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL).
The 15-year pact marks Sunsure’s first long-term supply agreement through a battery energy storage system (BESS), to be set up under the build-own-operate model at the Garautha substation in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The standalone BESS will supply four hours of on-demand clean energy between 6 pm and 10 am, helping UPPCL manage peak demand at competitive, long-term tariffs. Uniquely, the contract introduces a shift in India’s energy storage billing, with tariffs based on discharged energy (Rs/kWh), instead of fixed monthly charges.
Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Sunsure Energy, said, "We've moved from pure-solar offerings to hybrid systems with BESS, enabling C&I customers to access renewable energy even during peak hours, while displacing more fossil energy from their energy mix." This project positions Sunsure and NVVN at the forefront of India’s evolving clean energy storage ecosystem.
