On 01 January, 2026, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a series of infrastructure projects under the North Chennai Development Scheme, aimed at improving the region’s power supply, water infrastructure, street lighting, and education.
He inaugurated the Broadway 33/11kV substation, built at a cost of Rs 18.24 crore by TANGEDCO, which will help address low voltage issues and ensure a reliable power supply for over 15,000 consumers in areas like Broadway, Mannadi, and Sowcarpet. Additionally, he inspected the construction of 15-lakh-litre capacity water storage tanks by Metrowater, valued at Rs 27 crore, and unveiled 128 new streetlights along Prakasam Road, costing Rs 1.26 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for the Chief Minister's Study Centre and Modern Library, with an estimated cost of Rs 23.06 crore.
The projects are part of the government's efforts to promote balanced development, especially in North Chennai.
