Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced the establishment of a two million sq. ft. IT park in Coimbatore under a public-private partnership during the Umagine TN 2025 Summit. The initiative aims to strengthen Tamil Nadu's position in the technology and digital services sector with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI).
The Chief Minister drew a parallel between this initiative and the landmark Tidel Park in Chennai, developed under the tenure of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, and said "Now we are moving to the next step in information technology and digital services." Additionally, he emphasized the state's efforts to promote the development of IT infrastructure in tier-II-and-III cities like Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai, Trichy, Hosur, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Villupuram, and Thoothukudi. To ensure uniform development across the state and boost employment for Tamil Nadu's youth, the government is working on a new technology policy set to be unveiled soon.
The Tamil Nadu government has also taken proactive measures to equip the younger generation for opportunities in the evolving tech landscape. Thirteen MoUs have been signed with leading companies to provide skill training to youths at an investment of Rs 78 crore.
