The southern coast of Tamil Nadu is all set to get a new LNG Floating Storage and Re-gasification Unit (FSRU) along with a power plant and the related port infrastructure.
To realise its plans, Eurostar Kirtilals, a group company of the jewellery chain Kirtilals, will soon ink an agreement with Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, to form a JV to set up the project in Nagapattinam district.
The government of Tamil Nadu has estimated that the state requires at least two LNG terminals, with an initial capacity of five million tpa.
Besides, IndianOil Corporation is setting up a five million tpa LNG import terminal at Ennore, Chennai, with an investment of Rs 4,500 crore. The company has entered into an agreement with the state government for the project. The terminal project has provision to double and subsequently triple its capacity in the coming years.
