The Tata-Gulermark joint venture (JV) has commenced work on the underground section of the Pune Metro Rail project.
The project will entail an investment of Rs 2,277 crore for Tata Projects and Turkish company, Gulermark Heavy Industries Construction & Contracting JV. This is the JV’s second such project with both partners executing similar project of 3.6 km for the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation.
The Tata-Gulermak JV will be building five km of underground section split into two packages and five underground stations for the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro).
The two special tunnel boring machines (TBM) worth Rs 100 crore have been procured from Taiwan by the JV for tunneling in Pune. These TBM will begin work in October 2019 and take 42 months to complete. The Gulermak-Tata JV has started manufacturing tunnel segment casting rings from the manufacturing facility in Pune.
Tata Projects and Gulermak Heavy Industries Construction & Contracting have created an integrated JV with teams from both partners working together to execute the project in Pune. Tata Projects is also executing tunneling work for the Mumbai Metro Line-3 from Dharavi to Dadar along with the Indian company, ITD.
