ONGC's project of
expanding the capacity of its Tatipaka mini refinery in Andhra
Pradesh is likely to be complete by July 2005.
The project is
currently in the designing stage, while construction work is
expected to start by June 2004. The capacity of the refinery
would be stepped up from the present 66,000 tonnes per annum
(tpa) to 2,00,000 tpa, at a cost of Rs.20 crore.
Background on Tatipaka
Refinery:
- Commissioned in September
2001, th Tatipaka Refinery is a skid-mounted relocatable
refinery conceptualised to surmount problems evacuating
the oil produced in remote locations of the Krishna
Godavari basin.
- The refinery was set up with
technical collaboration from US-based Ventech
- Petroleum products are
supplied in the following manner
Naphtha: Supplied to HPCL for supply to
Nagarjuna Fertilizers
LSHS: Supplied to BPCL for fuel purpose
High Speed Diesel: Partly consumed by
ONGCs own drilling rigs in Rajahmundry and
Karaikal, and partly supplied to HPCL, IOC and BPCL.
Special Kerosene Oil: Supplied to HPCL
and IOC for public distribution system
