The
Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Mr Ram Naik, will be
inaugurating the Tatipaka Mini Refinery — ONGC’s first-ever oil refinery
— on 3 September 2001. The refinery has been set up at Tatipaka in the East
Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
This
is ONGC’s first venture of producing petro-products through distillation of
crude oil. The refinery is designed to produce naphtha, kerosene, diesel and
reduced crude oil. For over two decades, ONGC was engaged in the production of
marketable products such as LPG, kerosene, aromatic rich naphtha, low aromatic
naphtha, etc., through fractionation of natural gas.
The
features of the refinery are:
- Located in proximity
of the gas collection station
- Capacity to process
0.1 million tonnes per annum of crude oil
- Designed to handle
220 tonnes of crude per day

The refinery is expected to save
transportation expenditure of about Rs.3 crore per year.
