Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation is expected to award tenders for Reach III
by end-July and for Under Ground Section by August 2009.
The Bangalore Metro Rail project is being executed in 4 Reaches with Reach I
stretching from Byappanahalli to Cricket Stadium, Reach II from Magadi Road to
Mysore Road Terminal, Reach III from Yeshwanthpur to Swastik and Reach IV from K
R Road to R V Road Terminal.
Work on CMH Road and Byappanahalli Station, part of Reach I, was underway
with completion scheduled for October 2010. Navyuga Engineering has completed
around 55 per cent of work on the viaduct for 5.5 km with full completion
scheduled for July 2010.
Construction work on OM Road and Ulsoor Station, MG Road & Trinity Station,
Byappanahalli depot (package 1 & 2) and off loaded balance work (Viaduct) was
underway with completion scheduled for December 2011. Punj Lloyd-Sembawang is
the contractor for MG Road & Trinity Station while Gammon India is contractor
for the off loaded balance work (Viaduct).
Work on design and construction of viaduct for 3.6 km under Reach IV was
underway with completion scheduled for January 2010. Construction work of R V
Road, Jayanagar was being carried out by IVRCL Infrastructure and L&T was the
contractor for South End, Lal-bagh and KR Road stations. The stations are slated
to be completed by December 2010.
The Bangalore Metro Rail project stretching 33 km is being set up at a cost
of Rs 4,989 crore in two phases. Of the 33 km stretch, 7 km is expected to be
elevated and the rest will be underground stretch. The metro rail will have two
surface stations - Byappanahalli & Seshadripuram.
Phase I comprises North-South railway line from Yeshwanthpur to R V Road
(14.9 km) and Phase II comprises line stretched from Mysore Road to
Byappanahalli (18.1 km). The entire project is expected to be completed by
December 2012.
