Thiruvananthapuram airport’s expansion plans have gained significant momentum with Adani Airports securing USD 750 million through external commercial borrowings to upgrade infrastructure across its six airports. Of this, Rs 1,300 crore will be allocated to Project Anantha, focused on expanding Terminal 2, while Rs 700 crore will go toward enhancing non-aeronautical services such as retail, F&B, duty-free, and other amenities.
The funds will support upgrades at airports in Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangalore, Jaipur, and Guwahati. Project Anantha involves expanding the current 45,000 sq m terminal handling 3.2 million passengers annually to 1,65,000 sq. mtrs., enabling a capacity of nearly 12 million passengers per annum. The terminal will feature a multi-level Curb Integrated Terminal, an airport plaza, hotel, commercial and administrative block, and expanded car parking.
Additional infrastructure upgrades include a new ATC tower, an international cargo complex, and a remote landside check-in facility. Adani Airport Holdings stated that all approvals are awaited, but plans and funding are ready.
A long-term Rs 3,000 crore masterplan has been submitted for future redevelopment and capacity expansion to serve 27 million passengers by 2034.
