The Union Government has given its approval to three greenfield airports in
the Northeast region.
Of the three, the
Pakyong airport in Sikkim is already under construction and Rs 264 crore has
already been invested in to it, while the other two are to come up at
Itanagar and Cheithu in
Nagaland.
Besides, the development of the
Tezu airport (Arunachal Pradesh) at a cost of Rs 79 crore has also been
approved. The project is being implemented by the Airports Authority of India
and is expected to be ready by March 2012.
