The State Highways Department's eight-km-long two-lane road project along the northern bank of the Vaigai river, extending from near Kamarajar Bridge in Arapalayam to Samayanallur on NH-44, is expected to be completed by February 2026.
The new road aims to ease traffic congestion, particularly for vehicles heading toward the Dindigul National Highway, which currently have to pass through the heavily congested Fatima College Road. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 176 crore, began in September 2024. It includes the construction of retaining walls to support the road and prevent erosion along the riverbank. Two bridges will also be built to cross canals near Paravai, ensuring smoother connectivity.
The road will terminate at the Kanniyakumari NH, benefiting motorists traveling to Virudhunagar, Dindigul, and southern districts. The new road will significantly reduce accidents and traffic congestion, improving safety and travel efficiency.
