Uranium Corporation
of India (UCIL) plans to invest Rs.1,500 crore in developing its newly
discovered mines in Meghalaya and Andhra Pradesh. Mining of Uranium is now restricted
to Jadugoda, Bhaton & Narwah in East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand.
UCIL has
discovered uranium reserves in Meghalaya and Andhra Pradesh. New deposits were
found in Bandohoranga near Jamshedpur, Domaisat near Shillong and Lambapur near
Hyderabad. The ores in these mines were of better quality than those currently
being mined. The company is in process of acquiring land at Bandohoranga while
the Meghalaya and Andhra Pradesh governments were yet to approve the project.
