The Government of Uttar Pradesh is planning to roll out an innovative initiative to ease the traffic movement on streets, facilitate transportation and develop an integrated and green road network by reducing the carbon footprint in the state. Under this initiative, the government will widen all municipal roads in urban areas of Uttar Pradesh.
In addition, the Urban Development Department will also replace the Urban Road Improvement Scheme, which has been operational since the FY2014, with an incentive-based initiative ‘Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development Scheme (Urban)’, for the development of roads. Also, it will help municipal bodies achieve financial autonomy.
The proposed road network will focus on developing an integrated green road, which will be cost-effective and have low carbon emissions. This will help improve transportation efficiency, develop safe roads and intersections, maintain and manage built assets, as well as achieve financial autonomy for municipal bodies.
Moreover, as per the proposal, urban areas will be required to fulfil the eligibility and funding allocation criteria to benefit from the CM Grids scheme.
