Indian Railways has reached a major milestone with the successful completion of the final high-speed trial of the indigenously developed Vande Bharat sleeper train.
The trial was conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety on the Kota–Nagda section, where the train achieved a top speed of 180 kmph. Officials said the trial marks a significant step towards advanced, self-reliant rail technology, though no fresh launch date has been announced despite earlier timelines. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared visuals of the trial, highlighting a water-glass stability test that demonstrated the train’s smooth performance even at high speed. According to officials, detailed technical evaluations were carried out, including checks on ride stability, vibration, braking performance, emergency braking systems and overall safety parameters.
“The train’s performance at high speed was found to be fully satisfactory, and the trial was declared successful by the CRS,” the ministry said. The 16-coach Vande Bharat sleeper train is designed for long-distance travel and is equipped with modern passenger amenities.
