The Rs 506.48-crore Vattiyurkavu junction development project in Thiruvananthapuram is set to begin tender proceedings this month, with work expected to start by February 2026.
The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has sanctioned the funding for this significant infrastructure project. It involves the development of a 10.8 km stretch of road, connecting Sasthamangalam to Vazhayila, with a width of 18.5 mtrs. Land acquisition for the first two stretches has been completed, with nearly 99 percent of old structures removed. The project also involves shifting electric, water, and sewerage lines, costing Rs 13.63 crore. The development will be managed by two special purpose vehicles (SPVs)—the Kerala Road Fund Board for junction and road work, and the Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority (TRIDA) for rehabilitation.
An area of 2.31 acres has been acquired for rehabilitating affected traders, with shops and other facilities being set up for 58 traders. “The project is expected to boost local infrastructure and trade,” said MLA V.K. Prasanth.
